Hyundai Grandeur Concept Revives Old-School Look with New Tech

Modernize the interior.

Hyundai must feel a little nostalgic as it looks back at its history with a retro-inspired concept. The Korean automaker is focusing on its original flagship, the Grandeur, which was launched in 1986. Hyundai created the Heritage Series Grandeur as a celebration of the model’s 35th Anniversary. It is a stunning concept that combines the car’s 1980s styling with modern technology.

Although the concept retains the classic car shape, designers made some changes to the grille, wheels and moldings as well as the side-view mirrors. The new Hyundai Infinitiq 5 received pixelated taillights and headlights. The majority of changes to the car were made by the interior design team. Here, old and new ideas collide to create an interesting alternate history. The 1980s-era single-spoke steering wheel is complemented by a mechanical gearshift level.

A modern, ultra-wide display contrasts with these throwback pieces. It looks just like the new Hyundai electric car, but that’s not the only technology. The center console houses a secondary vertical screen that controls the infotainment system. It is located in front. To give the Grandeur a unique look, designers also replaced its overhead interior lighting with an Infinity Mirror. Because it is commonly used in vintage audio gear, Hyundai chose the bronze-colored lighting.

The Heritage Series Grandeur has an unspecified all electric powertrain. It joins the Hyundai Pony Electric concept, which the company first introduced in April. This is the second vintage concept that Hyundai has released, and we are curious if more will follow. As there are so many options in Hyundai’s range, we’d love to see Hyundai’s creativity grow. Which model should Hyundai reimagine? We might get another concept in eight months.
