New screens are installed inside, as well as a redesigned central console design.
Hyundai launched the Kona on June 2017 to continue the trend of quirky-looking compact crossovers. The new Hyundai design language was introduced for Hyundai’s high-riding vehicles. However, Hyundai is currently updating the look for the 2021 model years. The Kona 2021 gets a new exterior design, interior design tweaks and changes to the available powertrains.
The exterior has seen the most drastic changes. Hyundai has made major improvements to the front and back fascias. While the Kona’s split-headlight design is still in place, it now has a completely new exterior. It features a new grille and new headlights. This is a significant upgrade to the previous look. Similar changes are made at the rear, including new taillight graphics and updated lighting elements. The bumper has also been redesigned.
The Kona N-Line package includes more substantial changes, including wider air intakes and body-colored wheel arches. A prominent rear diffuser, unique 18-inch tires, a dual-tip exhaust and other features. The badge remains in the grille and the three “nostrils”, located above the grille at the top of the hood, enhance the sportier appearance. The N-Line pack can be purchased with any of the Kona’s powertrains. However, customers who choose the N-Line with the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine and all-wheel drive will get “specific steering tuning”.
It’s not surprising that the 1.6-liter mill, which was introduced in the Elantra N-Line earlier this year, is here. The crossover will produce 198 horsepower (147kilowatts), and it is only available with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Hyundai also offers the 1.6-liter and 1.0-liter gasoline engines with 48 volt hybrid tech. The 136-hp (101kW) diesel can be paired with either a seven speed dual-clutch or six-speed manual transmission, as well as all-wheel drive. Although the 1.0-liter engine produces 120 horsepower (89 kW), it is also available without the hybrid system. The updated Kona Hybrid model is available.
Hyundai has redesigned the center console and dashboard inside, creating a more spacious and airy feel. This is made possible by the electronic parking brake. The Kona is a great example of an update. A new digital instrument cluster measuring 10.25 inches and an optional infotainment display measuring 10.25 inches are available. The standard screen can be expanded from 7 to 8 inches.
The full-blown Kona N model is not mentioned. However, we could soon hear more about that model. At the end 2020, Kona N Line and Kona N Line will be available at European dealerships. The Kona Hybrid will be available in the first quarter of 2021.
