Hyundai Staria Minivan Revealed with Spaceship Design and 11 Seats

Minivan unlike any other

The rise of SUVs and crossovers has made minivans less popular. But Hyundai is injecting some life into the segment with the all-new Staria. The press release doesn’t mention the term “minivan”, much like its sister brand Kia, and its Carnival people-mover. The two South Korean family haulers are instead called multi-purpose vehicles (MPV), as the old-fashioned term “minivan” is too outdated.

Hyundai claims the Staria’s exterior is futuristic and innovative, resembling an outer spaceship. It’s a debateable statement, but it’s clear that the minivan is futuristic looking and clean. The Premium trim level is the most expensive, featuring a glitzy radiator grille and full-LED headlights. It also features custom 18-inch alloy wheels and chrome accents throughout. The new Staria is available with up to 11 seats, as well as other configurations with nine, seven or two seats.

The dashboard features a digital instrument cluster at the top. It is complemented by an 10.25-inch touchscreen that controls the infotainment system. The Premium variant has seven seats. The middle row features what Hyundai calls “premium relaxation chairs”, which automatically recline when you press a button. Staria Premium’s nine-seat Staria Premium comes with second-row seats which can swivel 180° to face passengers seated on the rearmost seats.

Staria Premium has ambient LED lighting in 64 colours. All trim levels have different storage areas including the overhead console, the top, bottom, and under the driver’s display. The centre console box has USB ports, cup holders and additional storage for miscellaneous objects. Meanwhile, the button-type gear selector frees up more space.

Hyundai claims it will release technical specifications for the Hyundai Genesis in the first half year. Hyundai also mentions that the Staria 11-seater will only be available to South Korean customers.
