Incredible Dodge Viper Drives 300 MPH in Quarter-Miles, 3,300 Horsepower

It’s street legal and has air conditioning.

What does it actually mean to “go fast?” It all depends on the context. 200 mph, for example, is a slow speed for a fighter plane. This speed is not uncommon in the world of automotive motorsports. Although 200 mph is a speed record for street cars, it’s not surprising that this final-generation Dodge Viper can reach that velocity so quickly.

The annual FL2k Florida event was attended by many who witnessed firsthand the 3,306 horsepower that a Viper can produce. The racing action was held at Bradenton Motorsports Park from October 7-10, with That Racing Channel capturing at least some of it. Nth Moto, a tuning company, used the event as an opportunity to show off the silver Viper. It was built for a customer who needed extreme speed and could still troll Cars & Coffee.

The exterior is remarkably stock, save for the fat tires on the rear and the parachute at the back. Lightweight racing seats, a fully enclosed roll cage and unobtrusive interior keep the car’s factory look. It still has power steering and a blasting stereo system. And yes, the car has working air conditioning to keep its occupants cool. The rear wheels can be locked by pulling up on the handbrake. It releases the parachute. It’s amazing!

Because the Viper’s 3,306 horsepower combined with a sequential transmission, and a set drag tires allows it to reach unbelievable speeds in record time, the chute is essential. The Viper won the overall race in the FL2K roll race category, reaching 208.79mph in the final round. This video includes all of the preliminary racing, as well as an in-car view and telemetry that shows how fast this car accelerates. This Viper can go from 100 mph up to 200 mph in a span of a quarter mile. It takes a new Chevrolet Camaro SS approximately 4.3 seconds to reach 60 mph. It’s fast and very, very easy.

Amazingly, the Viper still has a factory V10 engine, heads, and motor, although the mill has been modified to the fullest extent. Although street legal, it is not yet clear how such power will be handled in casual driving. This insane Viper deserves respect in every context of speed.
