The coupe is already in very low demand.
According to Automotive News, the Infiniti Q60 coupe could be scrapped in 2023. The report does not provide any additional information about why the model is being discontinued.
You don’t have to be an MBA to see why Infiniti would end the model. The premium automaker sold 2,792 Q60s in 2020, a decrease of 44.6 percent over 2019. Infiniti sold 1,697 coupes in the first half 2021, a decrease of 10.1% from the previous year.
The 2017 model year saw the arrival of the current Q60. The new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine produced 300 horsepower (224 kilowatts) as well as 295 poundfeet (405 newton meters), or 400 hp (298kW) and 350lb-ft (475Nm) depending on which trim level. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder was available with 208 horsepower (155 kW) or 258 lbft (350 Nm).
There was an automatic seven-speed gearbox available regardless of the engine. Buyers can choose between rear- and all-wheel drive layouts.
In 2017, Infiniti was joined by the Renault F1 team to create the Q60 Project Black S concept. The hybrid assistance was added to the twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine V6 to produce 500 horsepower (373 kW).
Multiple rumors circulated about a production version, but it never came to fruition. Infiniti announced that the high performance coupe would not be coming to market in March 2021.
As part of the larger Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi Alliance restructuring, Infiniti will focus on making models that sell well to people in the United States and China. The strategy could see the removal of rear-wheel-drive cars like the Q60. Future plans call for greater platform sharing with Nissan.
