In 2021, the M4 GT3 will begin racing.
The latest teaser video for the new BMW M4 showcases both the road car and the GT3-class racer. Both prototypes will be displayed at the Red Bull Ring in the BMW M Grand Prix of Styria MotoGP.
These teaser images of the M4 coupe show it covered in a wrap but nothing hides the true shape of its body. This matches the dozens of spy photos that show the development of the M4 coupe. The huge grille is from the 4 Series but with bigger intakes in lower fascia. This creates a balanced look for the nose.
Other design modifications include larger sills. There are four circular exhaust outlets on the rear deck, as well as a small spoiler.
The M4 and M3 will come with the standard version of a 3.0-liter twin turbo inline-six engine with 473 horsepower (353kW) and running through either a six-speed manual, or an eight-speed auto. The competition version will have the same engine, making 503 horsepower (375 kW), and the auto gearbox. These will both be rear-wheel driven at launch. Later, an all-wheel-drive version will be available.
On September 23, , the road-going M4 coupe and M3 sedan will be presented. The US sales will begin in the early 2021.
M4 GT3 will race an inline-six variant from the road car, but with modifications for competition use. It will have a completely different body. Motorsport teams have extended the front to make wider fenders. The car’s angry appearance is accentuated by the more angular styling of the hood.
The exhaust pipe exits directly ahead of the passenger-side front wheel. This should make the engine produce a very impressive sound. The fenders are wider at the back and have inlets to the sides. The airflow is controlled by a big diffuser and a spoiler that mounts to the gooseneck.
Good design is subjective. However, the exterior changes to the M4 GT3 make it more appealing than the road car. Particularly, the front changes to the M4 GT3’s exterior seem to achieve a better balance with its big grille. This creates a more cohesive appearance.
In 2021, the M4 GT3 will compete at select races. It will replace the M6 GT3 in 2022 for customers who race in this class.
