Jaguar E-Type 60 Collector Celebrates Six Decades Of The Iconic Sports Car

Six pairs of coupes and roadsters mirror the 1961 Geneva launch cars.

The E-Type is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars in the world. However, yours truly prefers to drive the Mercedes300 SL Gullwing. Jaguar Classic will unveil the E-Type 60 collection, which includes six coupes and six roadster versions that have been completely restored to celebrate the anniversary. The beauties are sold as a pair and take inspiration from the launch cars at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show.

The Coupe Flat Out Grey is the paint choice for this car, while its roadster counterpart uses a Drop Everything Green color. This shade was inspired by six decades-old original colors. Jaguar claims that you will not be able order these paint colors on any other model because they are exclusive to the E-Type 60 collection. These vehicles were completely restored to their original condition and have received a few mechanical upgrades.

The E-Type coupes/roadsters are now equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox. It features synchromesh, helical-cut gears and a stronger cast aluminum casing. Jaguar Classic claims that the gear ratios have been rearranged to allow for more sporty driving, and that changing gears will be easier. The transmission upgrade is connected to the familiar XK engine (a 3.8-liter six cylinder with 265 horsepower) and has a 1961-style alloy radiator.

E-Type 60 Collection cars have an electric cooling fan that cools the engine and connects to a polished stainless-steel exhaust. Although the latter is exactly the same size as its mild-steel ancestor, Jaguar claims it’s stronger and has a deeper sound.

Jaguar has updated the E-Type’s infotainment system to include satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. The changes are completed by a new center console that features a unique engraving, which harkens back to 1961’s launch cars. Each engraving is hand-crafted after consultation with the future owner, according to the British marque. This laborious process can take more than 100 hours.

The interior of the coupe is made from smooth black leather, while that of the roadster has a suede green trim. As a tribute to the original E-Type 60, both have commemorative E-Type 60 logos that include “1961-2021” and a light beech-rimmed steering wheels with a 24-carat-gold horn button. Each pair comes with a matching tool roll, car cover, and jack storage bags.

Although pricing details are not available, considering that the Jaguar Classic Reborn 3.8-liter E-Type costs PS315,000 (about $439,000), one of six pairs from the E-Type 60 Collection will likely cost you at least PS630,000 ($877,000.600).
