It’s also available for purchase.
Ask most people what a Foxbat looks like. They might refer to an airplane. Ask an airplane geek this question, and they will tell you everything about the Russian MiG-25 Foxbat. It’s a big and powerful fighter jet, but it’s also quite crude. The same can be said for the Jaguar, which also bears the Foxbat name. In a moment, we’ll discuss that name more.
Let’s first look at the Jaguar XK150 shoot brake. This 1960 Jaguar XK150 shooting brake is a rare find. Jaguar has never produced such a model. The long-roof project is a one-off. It removes the coupe’s back and replaces it by the Morris Minor Traveller-style wooden frame. Although some Jag purists may find this combination unflattering on a car like the XK150, we think it is actually a good pairing.
Although the video doesn’t provide any information about how or why these machines were fused together, it does show that the end product isn’t too bad. The seams are not as comfortable as they should be and the back seat isn’t very comfortable. If you need to transport cargo in your classic XK150, the back should be supported by a single piece wood. We aren’t sure why there is no legroom in the back seats, but it might be possible to stretch out and enjoy the ride sideways.
The 3.8-liter inline six engine is under the hood. It fires up quickly and runs well. The power is handled by a four-speed manual and, judging from the short video test drive, all mechanical components appear to be in good condition. It’s hard to deny the wonderful sound of that Jag I6 classic.
Geoffrey Stevens, a well-known Jaguar enthusiast, built the car using a rusty XK150 donor car. The MiG-25 Foxbat, which was at that time a mystery to NATO and western forces, was a fascinating vehicle. It was envisioned as a super-fighter with exceptional speed and maneuverability. However, little information was available about its actual capabilities until a Soviet pilot defected from Russia to Japan in 1976 with a MiG-25 – right in middle of the Jaguar / Morris Minor project. This is a fascinating coincidence.
The XK150 Foxbat, currently available in the UK for sale at a price of PS44.995, which is equivalent to almost $64,000 in US dollars.
