Hybrid powertrains will soon be available.
Will they? Or won’t they? This is the question Jeep enthusiasts have been asking since 2011 when the company announced the revival of the iconic Grand Wagoneer nameplate. According to reports, the new Jeep would be significantly more luxurious than any Jeep model in its class and much larger. However, details have not been revealed since the announcement. Only recently was more information released about the new Jeep.
The near-production Jeep is displaying its huge body in spy photos taken January. Now, a new interview with CEO Mike Manley at Geneva Motor Show confirms earlier reports. TopGear spoke with Manley, who stated that the Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s arrival will be within a few years and that it would “be super premium”.
Manley said, “We have been working on this for many years.” “It is in a long gestation phase and will be clearly positioned significantly higher than Grand Cherokee.”
The new Grand Wagoneer will be joining the range in 2020. It will have two wheelbase options that can hold three rows of seat, unique styling cues from Jeep, and a price tag of $140,000. This would place it in direct competition with premium offerings like Bentley and Land Rover.
The Grand Wagoneer isn’t the only Jeep on the agenda. Manley stated that the company is looking at other SUV options in the A-, C- and B-segments. In September, we reported about the subRenegade rumors. Now, Manley says that the SUV will only be available in markets outside North America. It could also come with a pure electric or hybrid powertrain.
“On the 1st June 2018, we will lay out the plan over the next five-years, and you’ll be able to see the level electrification that we have planned. Manley said that it was very important. It’s all about how much electrification we use. Some of our competitors have hybrids that are very mildly hybrid. I believe the most important driver is “What do you want your vehicle to be capable of doing?”
