It is expected that the luxurious 1500-based SUV will be unwrapped by spring 2020.
Jeep will be reviving the Grand Wagoneer brand plate. Our spies have already captured a test mule at the notorious Death Valley in California.
Jeep confirmed that production of the Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer was approved in 2017, along with assurances that a Wrangler pickup would also be available. With the now-famous Gladiator, the company already has solid sales figures across the country.
This test mule is likely to be the Grand Wagoneer’s upcoming SUV. According to reports, the truck-based SUV is sitting on top of the Ram 1500’s platform. This puts the Grand Wagoneer directly in competition with the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition, Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.
There will also be luxury trims that will compete with the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class as well as the Infiniti QX80. The Ram 1500 received positive feedback on several websites, so these rivals will be up against the Jeep SUV. Although we aren’t sure it would inherit the woodgrain trims, let’s not put too high of our hopes.
Based on our spying, more details about Grand Wagoneer are now available. The SUV is based on Ram 1500’s Ram 1500. However, it will feature an independent rear suspension to provide better ride quality and interior packaging. The SUV will have an adjustable ride height from Ram.
The Grand Wagoneer will be offered a choice of V6 or V8 engines, as well as a new 48-volt hybrid system. An option for a plug-in hybrid version is also possible.
According to reports, the Jeep Wagoneer Grand Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will still be in their original packaging by spring 2020. More information about the revived SUV brandplate is expected to emerge in the coming months.
