Although we aren’t completely shocked, it is still surprising.
The Kia Stinger, a classic example for good news/bad news bit. Let’s begin with the good news. This performance-oriented sedan will soon get a mid-cycle refresh. Previous reports indicated that the twin-turbocharged, 3.3-liter V6 will be re-tuned to increase power. The car will receive aesthetic upgrades, most likely to the front and instrument clusters as shown in recent spy photos.
Unfortunately, the refreshed model could end up being the Stinger’s final song, a futile effort to increase its declining sales. The Stinger’s sales have dropped by 18 percent between 2018 and 2019.
The current coronavirus pandemic has not helped. The sales of the Kia Halo car fell by up to 21 percent in Q1 2020 compared with the same period last year. The worst month for sales was March, which saw a 40% decline in sales compared to the same month last year.
Automakers are also under financial pressure due to the pandemic. They have to choose profitable models to recover from the negative effects. The Stinger is now in a difficult position, but Karim Habib, Kia’s chief design officer with Top Gear suggests that there are ways for the Stinger.
Habib stated that the technology will move towards electric cars and the world’s appetite for them will change, so the concept of a car must evolve.
We’re not surprised at all, in fact. We’re not surprised. Even if it means electrifying the marque’s first halo vehicle, this doesn’t mean that certain vehicles are exempted from this program.
