Kia Will Not Make Two-Door Cars, Because Demand is Shrinking

We won’t complain about the new ProCeed shooting brake.

Manufacturers are constantly removing vehicles with only two doors. The market is moving towards more practical and rational vehicles and the two-door body style of the past is rapidly disappearing. SEAT is an example of this. They no longer sell two-door versions Leon and Mii.

The third-generation Hyundai Kia Ceed was also recently launched. It lost its coupe and hatchback to be replaced by the more practical but equally stylish ProCeed shooting brake. This is not an isolated instance, since the South Korean manufacturer does not plan to make cars with only two doors in the future.

Gregory Guillaume, head designer for Europe at CarAdvice explained in a recent interview how he and his colleagues were asked to think of another option after they had finished drawing the new ProCeed two-door model.

“We were about to launch the new ProCeed when the product guys told us that the ProCeed was dead and they wouldn’t be doing another one. You can see the faces of the guys in the team… as the segment was disappearing in Europe and three-door hatches weren’t available anymore.

Guillaume and the design team came up with the perfect solution to replace the two-door hatch. “Don’t give me a 3-door, they’ll axe it immediately. We came up with an intriguing solution out of a crisis.

That’s the interesting answer to that question. It is the ProCeed shooting brake that Kia introduced earlier this week in Paris. It is not to be confused with the Ceed Sportswagon regular, even though they have nearly identical boot spaces. It should be available for purchase in Europe by early next year.
