It is most likely that it will not arrive before the end of this decade.
The Lamborghini Urus SUV is one of the most powerful and costly currently available. The Lamborghini Urus is a powerful and expensive SUV. However, this is not enough for all customers. They are currently developing a more serious version that will be available later in the year. We will disappoint those who were expecting a fully-electric version. Although it is possible, we are not likely to see one with this generation.
Drive met recently with Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini’s design chief. They discussed many topics. Borkert was asked a few questions about a possible zero-emissions super-SUV. He initially confirmed it, but then he backed off a bit.
The designer stated to the Australian publication that the Urus would soon be electric. “To be honest, the regulations around the world as well as the acceptance of the public – this trend is certain.” While I don’t think the Urus successor will go electric right now, electrification is more sensible for these types of cars.
Although it’s hard to know what Borkert’s words actually mean, we can see that the executives at Sant’Agata Bolognese have been considering an electric Urus. It is certain that the next generation of this model will not be available. It is likely that the Urus EV will not be available before 2028, as its successor is unlikely to arrive before then.
Borkert confirmed that Lamborghini will continue to offer combustion power as long as legal permits. However, the switch to electric powertrains is inevitable. “People are still taught that V10 is emotionally, but I don’t know if the young children will still love this in 40 years. Although I love the combustion engine, I don’t fear the switch to electric.
