Lamborghini Huracan sets new half-mile record at 259.67 MPH

Is it possible to set a speed record of more than 260 mph?

Half-mile racing is all in speed. A single vehicle sets off the line to achieve the fastest speed possible at 2,640 feet (804.7 metres). These runs are becoming ever faster and a new video captures when the record is broken. This video is a fascinating glimpse at how a vehicle can perform for one purpose.

Underground Racing was the current record holder at Pikes Peak Airstrip Attack and was eager to break the record. Its biturbo Lamborghini Huracan, which can travel at a speed of 256.99 mph (413.6 km/h), is the fastest machine on the half-mile.

The Lambo’s speed increases over the course of the race. Initial runs showed it reaching 244 mph (399.7 kph), but the team keeps tweaking the car to overcome a lackluster grip. From there, the speeds increase. The coupe finally breaks the record, hitting 256.99mph. On the final run, Huracan speeds up to 259.67 mph (417.9 km/h) and 2.68 mph (4.3 km/h) faster than its previous record.

The video captures all of this while the man tries to drive a Nissan GT-R at record speeds. Although he isn’t as successful as Underground Racing, his car still managed to reach an incredible 253.52 mph (408 km/h).

Underground Racing is a top tuner of vehicles capable of reaching insane speeds within the half-mile. One of its modified Huracans hit 250 mph (or 402 kph) on May 21st 2017. Another of the modified Lambos was able to reach 238.6mph (383.9km/h) in 2015. This speed is also a title-holding speed.
