We have details about the 2020 Land Rover Defender’s American sales plan.
Land Rover’s newest generation of the iconic Defender was unveiled at The Frankfurt Motor Show. Now we know more about the automaker’s plans for the U.S. market. Joe Eberhardt is the president and CEO at Jaguar Land Rover North America. He shared some details about the Defender models that the company will be sending to America.
Eberhardt also stated that the U.S. team was considering the Commercial Defender 90 work car the brand will sell in Britain. Eberhardt believes there is more potential for the model if it does make it to the U.S. It’s something that we will definitely be looking into.”
The Commercial Defender 90 is a stripped-down version. SUV. It only rides on 18-inch steel wheels, and doesn’t have the convenience and comfort features of upmarket trims.
Eberhardt says that he expects the Defender 110, a four-door Defender 110 with a longer wheelbase to be the primary model seller. This is available in all markets, including the U.S. We could be surprised. But we’ll just have to wait and see. However, our research shows strong interest in the 110. It would not surprise me if it sold three to one or four to one [to the 90].
North America will be the biggest market for Defender. Land Rover will release special First Edition models when the SUV arrives next spring. The 110 will come in other trims, but the 90 will only be available as a First Edition model. This model will be available for 2020.
The Defender SE is the basis for the First Edition. It is powered by the P400 powertrain. This powertrain combines a six-cylinder engine and an electric motor to create what is known as a “mild hybrid”. The P400 is more powerful than any Land Rover engine that was compatible with the Defender. It produces 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft torque.
The Defender 90 First Edition will be covered in a coat Pangea Green Metallic paint and a white contrasting roofing. The Defender 90 First Edition will ride on 20-inch Sparkle Silver wheels with off-road tires. It will also sport First Edition badges. You can expect metal treadplates and First Edition badges on the treadplates. Heated seats, a heated steering column, and Ebony-grained leather seating with woven textiles. This special model will be equipped with the brand’s Jump Seat, which allows for a third person in the first row.
While the Defender 110 First Edition will have the same contents as the 90, it will be distinguished by Indus Silver Metallic paint and a black contrasting roof. The 110 will include a third row, three zone climate control and an air quality sensor with cabin ionization. According to Land Rover’s interior design team, the center console includes a refrigerator and is “not just an air conditioner.”
The 2020 Land Rover Defender 110 First Edition will be available in spring 2020. The two-door Defender 90 will arrive in the following months. The pricing for the Defender 90 will also be revealed at , the Los Angeles Auto Show.
