Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept May Hint at All-New Lexus LX

The new Lexus concept is both extravagant and luxurious. It could offer a glimpse into the future of the LX.

The Lexus LX’s third generation has been around for over a decade. It is time to be updated to keep pace with the luxobarges of rival automakers. Although the LF-1 Limitless concept that is being presented today is only a concept, there are good reasons to believe that it will be a preview of a new LX. Lexus says in the press release that the new concept has the “potential of shaping the future” of a luxury crossover.

The LF-1 Limitless is Lexus’ signature vehicle. It has a bold exterior design that was created in collaboration with CALTY Design Research, California – the same team behind the FT-1 project to preview the new Supra. It rides on 22-inch wheels, as you’d expect from a concept car. The design is in keeping with recent Lexus models. The concept measures 5014 millimeters (197.4 in) long, 1605 mm (63.2 in) wide and 1986 mm (78.2 inch) high. It is slightly longer than the LX, but rides much lower. The wheelbase measures 2974mm (117.1 inches), slightly shorter than the LX.

The new Lexus concept isn’t just for SUV or crossover fans. The spindle grille is a little too eccentric and the split rear spoiler is… fascinating, but the LF-1 Limitless’s design is sleek and has an attractive roofline. It should not be modified on the way to the assembly plant. The concept’s futuristic look is enhanced by the use of futuristic taillights and headlights. Additionally, the flush door handles and absence of traditional side mirrors add to the body’s modern sheet metal.

It’s a minimalist cabin with few traditional controls when you step inside. The digital display for the driver is supported by an infotainment screen that’s large and has touch-sensitive buttons. As part of the rear entertainment system, 4D navigation has been added. Additional screens have been integrated into the backrests.

The identity of the powertrain is the missing piece. Lexus mentions that the concept is able to offer endless engine options, which Lexus acknowledges. The LF-1 is available with a combustion gasoline engine, a plug-in hybrid, a hybrid / hybrid setup or a pure EV. It can also be equipped with a fuel cell hydrogen arrangement.

The LF-1 Limitless is a crossover concept that’s likely to be in production. It follows the UX, which Lexus expects to be its smallest, most high-riding offering.
