It is possible that we won’t see it on the roads until 2023.
According to Japanese publication Best Car, the new Lexus crossover that will replace the LX is expected to arrive in 2023. It will reportedly be called LF, , rather than LQ, as previously reported.
Reports in the past indicated that this model would be available for the model year 2022. The new rumor claims that the one-year delay was due to unspecified causes.
According to Best Car, part of the reason could be that there was a setback in developing the twin-turbo V8. The engine’s introduction is being pushed back by distribution issues and challenges caused by the coronavirus.
Lexus has announced the twin-turbo 4.0 liter V8 in 2019. They plan to first install it in , a racing version for the Nurburgring 24 Hours. The mill was planned to be installed in road-going models at a later date. The company decided to not campaign the car in that year and coronavirus prevented the automaker’s participation in the German event in 2020/21.
According to reports, the LF will ride on the GA variant of the TNGA platform like the Lexus LS and will have three rows of seating. The company will also offer a hybrid V6 3.5-liter engine. Best Car reports that the company will offer a F version of its big crossover, which would use a more powerful version of the V8. It would produce 651 horsepower (485 Kilowatts) as well as 480 lb-ft (650 Newton-meters), of torque.
Another rumor is that Lexus may be working on a body/frame SUV. This would reportedly be a low volume, halo product. The vehicle is capable of off-roading, although there are still many mysteries. It is not known when this model will arrive.
