The tech gets America’s 2022 LS 500h
Toyota’s new assistance tech suite is called Advanced Drive. It is first introduced in Japan on the Lexus and Toyota Mirai. Motor1.com has been informed by Toyota that it plans to offer the system on the 2022 Lexus Lexus LS 500h in America.
Advanced Drive employs millimeter-wave radars, stereo cameras, telescopic cameras, LiDAR and high-precision mapping. Toyota hopes that this system will allow drivers and cars to act as partners in protecting one another. This will allow them to enjoy driving, while allowing automated driving to be used when necessary. The sensors warn the driver if there is a danger. Advanced Drive can either suggest what to do, or the driver can take over control.
Advanced Drive is able to safely control the vehicle on highways. This includes changing lanes, overtaking vehicles, and other maneuvers. Passing requires that the driver holds the steering wheel and authorizes the system to move the vehicle. The system can allow the vehicle to move within the lane in order to make enough space to the right or left.
The sensors can detect if other vehicles merge onto the roadway and will slow down to allow drivers to get onto the highway.
Advanced Drive allows you to update your software over-the-air. This includes adding new functions or updating existing ones. The exterior cameras in Japan will record driving data and send it back to Toyota. The data will be used by the company to improve the technology.
The pricing for the 2022 LS500h with Advanced Drive in America is still not available.
