Lexus has provided additional information on the V8 petrol engine behind the RC F sports coupe

Lexus has provided additional information on its V8 petrol engine, which powers the RCF sports coupe.

The new 4,969cc 32-valve engine has been developed from the engine in the ISF model. According to the company, extensive changes have been made. Maximum power has been increased by 12 percent or 54 bhp (451 kW) to 471bhp (351kW). The rev limit was also increased from 6,800 to 7,300rpm. Lexus also explained that the 12.3:1 compression ratio increases torque across the entire rev range. Maximum output is 530 Nm (390lb-ft), and it’s available from 4,800-5,600rpm.

The engine has many new components, including the intake, throttle body and cylinder heard. The V8 utilizes titanium inlet and exhaust valves as well as new, high-strength, forged connecting rods. It switches to the more fuel efficient Atkinson cycle at cruise speeds and then to the Otto at higher revs.

We have already reported that the RC F accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 4.5 seconds. The top speed, however, is electronically controlled at 270 km/h (161 mph). From standstill, the 400m (1/4 mile), sprint takes 12.5 seconds.
