The motoring industry is still far from the golden age Japanese performance cars, where manufacturers offer enthusiast-oriented models at various price points. However, there are still some very powerful machines coming out of the country’s automakers. Top Gear organizes a drag race between the Acura NX (which carries Honda branding in the United Kingdom) and a Nissan GT-R. This GT-R features extra tuning by Litchfield, a British tuner.

Acura’s race car arrives in stock condition. The twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter V6 has three electric motors. It produces a total of 573 horsepower (427 Kilowatts) as well as 476 pound-feet (645 Newton meters) through a nine speed dual-clutch gearbox. The US price starts at $159,300, after the $1800 destination fee. Buyers can receive a $20,000 significant rebate on the model . This is approximately 13 percent off base price.

The Nissan GT-R, on the other hand, comes standard with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 565 horsepower (421 kW) & 467 lb-ft (633Nm), and runs through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The base model in the U.S. starts at $101,685 with a $1,695 destination charge. The Litchfield tuning increases the output to 631 HP (471 kW) or 600 lb-ft (814Nm).

Despite having a disadvantage in power, the NSX is slightly lighter at 3,915 lbs (1,776 kgs), compared to the GT-R’s 3,968 pound (1,800kgs). They both have all-wheel drive so traction should not be an issue.

The NSX leaps off the line ahead the GT-R at the start of the race. This is likely due to Acura’s electric motors that produce instant torque. You can see the rest of the race to find out which model wins.
