The same horsepower should also be sufficient.
The Emira was the first new Lotus since more than a decade ago. It caught the eye of both enthusiasts and ourselves when it launched in July 2021. It will feature classic Lotus lines, and 400 horsepower (298kilowatts), turning the rear wheels. We have a racing version of the car to enjoy, so it won’t be quiet.
Technically, the Lotus Emira GT4 shown here was a concept created with RML Group. Lotus will unveil the Emira GT4 racecar at Hethel later in the year, but we expect you’ll get pretty much everything here. What does this mean? The Emira racing version is lighter at 2,778 pounds (1.260 kilograms)
The GT4’s changes are not detailed by Lotus. However, it is likely that the GT4 will lose weight due to the elimination of many creature comforts. Inside you will find a Motec-supplied dash that can log data and an FIA-compliant roll-cage with a six-point harness. However, this will increase weight. The gas tank will be replaced by a 25-gallon (96 liter) FIA approved fuel cell. You’ll also have an upgraded suspension and braking system. All four corners are replaced by race-focused 18-inch wheels, which are shod in Pirelli GT4 tires.
Power is the only area that appears to be unchanged. The Emira GT4’s only engine is the 3.5-liter Toyota V6, which produces 400 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed xTrac paddle shift gearbox. Although some might find it disappointing, the powertrain should be sufficient to drive straight after turning corners in a car that weighs 2,800 pounds.
At this time, there is no mention of production targets or cost. Lotus claims it will build a limited amount of Emira GT4s in the 2022 racing season. Then, additional cars will be built in 2023 to satisfy demand.
