Manthey Performance Porsche 911 GT2 RS Sets Nurburgring Record

This special suspension kit will be available as a Porsche Tequipment accessory for Europe. Other markets may follow.

Porsche broke another record at the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife. He completed a lap in 6 minutes, 43 seconds using a 911 GT2 RS equipped with a suite of aerodynamic, suspension and brake updates by Manthey Racing. The Manthey Performance Kit is available for European customers via Porsche’s Tequipment accessory line.

The record attempt was confirmed by a notary and beat , the previous ‘ring champ, by just over 5 seconds using the same 20.8-kilometer track layout. The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series broke the previous record and ran a lap of 6:43.616 over the 20.6-kilometer route. The Manthey GT2 took 6:38.835. We doubt that Porsche will fall far before the three-pointed star (or any other manufacturer) makes an attempt to overthrow it.

The GT2 RS doesn’t need a lot of support to become a track-day star. The GT2 RS already has a twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter flat-6-six that produces 691 horsepower and 553 pounds-feet (615 kilowatts, 750 newton meterss), rear-wheel drive, and a seven speed dual-clutch transmission. It can make quick and responsive shifts. Manthey also offers the GT2’s Weissach Package, which adds carbon fiber to the roof panel, suspension components, titanium to the roll cage and magnesium to the wheels. It’s not a very heavy machine.

The Tequipment accessory Manthey Kit is still aggressive. The most noticeable aero modifications are front spoiler flaps, carbon-fiber underbody, rear spoiler, diffuser and rear aerodiscs. This contributes to an increase in downforce. Manthey’s coilover suspension kit features three-position front and rear dampers, as well as four-position rear dampers. Special brake pads for Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake systems reduce fade while steel shrouds brake lines improve feedback, control, and control.

The result is a car that can lap the Nordschleife in 4.8 seconds faster than a stock GT2 RS. Porsche says the Manthey bits were developed to allow its race-on-Sunday-commute-on-Monday customers a whack at an even broader performance envelope, but unfortunately, we’ve got bad news for those folks who don’t live in Europe. For now, the Tequipment kit can only be purchased on continents and comes with a Porsche warranty. The automaker doesn’t rule out other markets, including the US, however.
