This weekend, the F1 car will be dressed in a Gulf-inspired livery in Monaco.
Recent sightings of cars in Gulf livery range from an Porsche 959 up to an F150. A stunning Ford GT was seen, as well as a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. But who is the best? You can decide that, but for now, another car is sporting the same powder blue/orange scheme.
McLaren will be releasing a special McLaren 720S supercar in its famous livery to celebrate the renewed partnership with Gulf Oil. This car will be complemented by the MCL35M Formula 1 vehicle, which we’ll see at the Monaco Grand Prix. It is dressed in the famous Gulf colors and has a matte finish, for the first time ever in F1 history.
McLaren claims that the supercar took McLaren 20 days to paint by hand. The Woking-based marque also teamed up to finish the project with Dutch paint specialist AkzoNobel. Apart from the body paint, the 720S has brake calipers as well as a wheel lip that is finished in solid orange.
The car’s interior features a matching color scheme thanks to the blue and orange stitching. The headrests are embroidered with the Gulf logos. You’ll also see them painted on carbon fiber sills. The custom steering wheel is finished with an orange center band and solid blue accents on the carbon fiber spokes.
Limited quantities of the Gulf livery are available through McLaren Special Operations (MSO). This joins the 675LT, which was introduced three years ago and has a similar finish to the Elva. Lanzante also released a road-legal P1 GTR in the same striking colors.
In the 1960s, McLaren and Gulf partnered. The tie-up is most well-known for the F1 GTR winning Le Mans race. They reconnected last year, with Gulf becoming the official oil and fuel supplier to McLaren’s road vehicles.
