McLaren 720S Spider is Coming. Here's the Proof

Take a look at how it looks when the roof is up and down.

McLaren’s two design registrations give a glimpse of the potential droptop McLaren 720S Spider. Let’s just hope that the real thing looks this good.

The 720S open-roof 720S has a folding hardtop, similar to the 675LT and 650S Spiders. This provides both all-weather protection as well as wind in the hair for those who are lucky enough. The rear glass is visible behind the passenger compartment, when the roof is on. There might also be flying buttresses that flow backwards that give the machine a coupe-like shape.

The 720S Spider’s roof is down has a sleek look. It has very clean lines which give it a very modern appearance. The slider below allows you to compare the silhouettes.

McLaren 720S Spider is Coming. Here's the ProofAlthough the folding roof and power mechanism will almost certainly increase the weight of the 720S model, the two models should otherwise be identical. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 would still produce 710 horsepower (529 kW) as well as 568 lbft (770 Nm), through a seven speed gearbox. Drag race videos have shown that the coupe is among the fastest supercars in its category. The extra weight of the retractable roof shouldn’t have much effect on acceleration but it does add to the thrill of hearing the wind.

We don’t know when the 720S Spider might be in production. It is not yet in production. McLaren filed the design trademarks for McLaren in February 2017. However, they were not published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office until just recently. The company had to design the model’s appearance a long time ago.

You shouldn’t be surprised if you see the 720S Spider go on sale in 2019
