McLaren Artura Hybrid Supercar Revealed with 671-HP Electrified VI6

The first series-production hybrid of the brand will reach 62 miles an hour in 3.0 seconds.

McLaren introduced the P1 hypercar in 2012. The first hybrid product by McLaren had a combined output power of 903 horsepower (673 kilowatts), a 0-62 speed of 2.8 seconds and an electric range that was 6.8 miles (11 km) when in full electric mode using the NEDC cycle. The car was more expensive than $1.0million when it was new. McLaren now offers nearly the same electrifying performance for a lower price.

The 2022 McLaren Artura hybrid is the first in series production. The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 produces 577 horsepower (430 kW) as well as 431 pound-feet (584 nton-meters). The transmission bell housing houses the “E-Motor”, which adds 94 horsepower (70 kW), and 166 lb-ft (225 Nm) to the total output of 671 HP (500 kW), and 593 Lb-ft (804Nm).

The Artura can reach 62 mph in 3.0 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the P1 and a maximum speed of 205 miles per hour. This powertrain is only paired with a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

An electric motor is powered by a battery pack that consists of five lithium-ion modules, each with a combined capacity 7.4 kilowatts. The Artura, like the P1, has a pure electric range that covers 19 miles and plug-in capabilities. Owners can charge their vehicles from 0 to 80 percent with a standard EVSE charger in under two hours.

McLaren’s Carbon Lightweight Architecture (or MCLA) is now available in Artura. This platform was designed by engineers to support hybrid powertrains. It features superformed aluminum and carbon fibre, which allows for sculpted proportions while keeping weight down.

The McLaren Artura is 3,303 pounds or 3,075 pounds dry. The combined weight of the hybrid components, such as the motor and battery pack, is 287 pounds. The battery pack is 194 pounds and the E-Motor 34 pounds. The gas engine weighs 353 pounds, which is 110 pounds less than the V8.

McLaren can now integrate a variety of active safety features into the new MCLA architecture. The Artura comes standard with adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning. High-beam assist and road sign recognition are also included. All of these features can be paired with regular over-the-air updates. The inside technology also receives a facelift. The McLaren Infotainment System II is available for the Artura. It features a touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a track telemetry software that includes a Variable Drift Control function.
