McLaren Senna Shaters Grand Tour Lap Record. Wows Clarkson

It is almost three times faster than the Aston Martin Vulcan.

The third season of the Grand Tour aired last week on Amazon Prime. There are currently three episodes. Although the trio may have stopped traveling technically they still have the same crazy rides that we are used to. The episode’s first half, entitled Motown Funk, sees Clarkson, Hammond and May take to the road in three Detroit muscle cars. Clarkson returns to Britain and is finally able to experience the 789-horsepower, 588-kilowatt McLaren Senna.

Clarkson was astounded by the six-figure supercar’s performance. He jokes that it was “really alarming” and that he’d be sick if he didn’t get to ride in the Senna. He shows off the supercar’s launch controller feature and he rockets off to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.7 seconds. On to 186 mph (299 Kmh) in 18 seconds. Unfortunately, there’s not enough runway to allow him to test the Senna at its 217 mph (349 kmh).

They didn’t just check the Senna’s speed in straight lines. The McLaren Senna broke the lap record at the Eboladrome by running a lap of 1:12.90. Abbie Eaton, a professional driver, was behind the wheel. This is almost three seconds faster than that of the Aston Martin Vulcan (1.15.5), four seconds faster then the Lamborghini Huracan Performante (1.16.80), five seconds faster the Ford GT (11:17.60).

In the second episode, Clarkson, Hammond and May took on Detroit in a trio – a trio of muscle cars. Hammond drove the Dodge Challenger Demon with 840 horsepower (626 kW), Clarkson drove the RTR-tuned Mustang producing 700 horsepower (522 Kilowatts), while May was able to drive the Excorist Camaro of 1,000 horsepower (Hennessey).

The Grand Tour Episode 4 will be available on February 8, 2019, and Amazon has confirmed season four.
