Surprise! It’s a C-Class sedan.
Mercedes has had plenty of AMG action over the past few months, but the C63 Sedan has been somewhat elusive. It is possible that we now understand why. Our friends at Motor.es have taken spy shots of the super sedan. They show it with less camouflage than before, which could indicate that development has advanced since when we last saw it in March. Although the styling of the car is more apparent in these new photos, it is not difficult to guess when it was last seen.
New photos show the C63 with less camouflage on the fascias. The car was previously covered in camo, which included the fascias at the front and rear and the lighting units. The camouflage is visible on the taillights, headlights, and some parts of the front bumper. The large, central opening is flanked by the two larger intakes that are pushed to the exterior of the aggressive front bumper. You can also see the Panamericana grille, badges and emblems front and center.
Although we can’t see beneath the sheet metal, we know that the next-generation C63 will have far fewer cylinders. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid turbocharger will provide the power for the C63 in 2022. Although it may not sound like much, the powertrain will produce more than 550 horsepower (410kilowatts), which represents a significant increase in power over the current V8’s 553-hp (375-kW).
We expect the 2022 Mercedes-AMG C63 to be released later in the year, alongside our C63 Estate which we have tested numerous times. Both models should be available for purchase in the 2022 model year. They will likely arrive at dealers early next year. As spy shots show the C63 Cabriolet as well as the Coupe, the regular C-Class Cabriolet has been seen out testing. However, these will likely arrive later than either the sedan or wagon. Although the C63 will be losing its twin-turbo V8 to make way for a hybrid powertrain it should still deliver great performance.
