Mercedes-AMG Confirms a New GT Coupe Will Join The SL

Two tales of the same coupe.

The brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe will soon join the new SL roadster. Both of these doors are Mercedes AMG exclusives. However, Gorden Wagener from Mercedes Design explained in an interview with Road and Track how they will co-exist. Mercedes-AMG plans the new SL Coupe and GT Coupe will share parts and use the same platform. However, each car will have a unique mission and will remain as individual products.

The new SL is now an exclusive Mercedes-AMG product, alongside the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe. The cars may have some parts overlap, but this is where the differences end. The GT is a more sporty, track-ready car while the SL is a luxurious luxury cruiser. Wagener explained to Road and Track that he believes both cars will co-exist harmoniously and that customers will have a wider range of models to choose from to suit their needs.

AMG Active Ride Control air suspension will be standard on the top-of-the-line SL 63. The occupants will be able to enjoy the most comfortable suspension system on the road today. Hydraulic anti-roll stabilization replaces the normally fixed anti-roll bars and ensures that the SL is flat in corners. It’s also comfortable and stable.

The upcoming GT coupe will continue to be one of the most powerful cars on the road. The Porsche 911’s direct rival will be at the Nurburgring and local track days while the SL will cruise comfortably to your favorite vacation spot. Mercedes-AMG is the best choice if you are looking for a coupe.
