Mercedes-AMG GT73e Enjoys The Snow

This sedan boasts 805 horsepower and should accelerate with impressive speed.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 73e will be the next range-topper in this brand’s high-performance sedan lineup. These spy photos capture a slightly camouflaged example in development during snowy conditions.

Comparing to the Mercedes-AMG Four-Door Coupe, the styling is quite familiar. The lower fascia is new at the front. Although camouflage conceals the design, we expect a more aggressive look to identify it visually at the top grades of the lineup.

The changes at the opposite end are subtler. The rear bumper has been slightly modified, but the camouflage conceals these changes. The sedan’s other grades are not significantly different. Each side of the tail has a pair of trapezoidal exhaust tubes.

Although interior photos aren’t yet available, don’t expect major changes to the lower grades. While the trim may be slightly different, the cabin will remain largely unchanged.

A hybrid-assisted version is found under the hood of AMG’s 4.0-liter twin turbo V8. It reportedly produces 805 horsepower (600 kilowatts). This is a significant improvement over the 630 hp (477 kW) of the GT 63 S. The setup can reportedly propel the sedan to 60 mph (96 km/h) in under three seconds.

Late 2019, Mercedes released a teaser hinting that the GT 73e would make its debut in 2020. However, the vehicle did not arrive in this turbulent year. Its debut in 2021 looks better. The exact date for the debut is unknown. This powertrain will be available in several Mercedes models after the debut, including the S Class and the SL Class.
