Which AWD AMG is the best?
In recent years, the AMG brand has grown to include a variety of high-powered vehicles. There are many models under the AMG brand, but there are still differences. Two models, the AMG S, and the , illustrate this. Carwow put the Mercedes vehicles through drag races to determine which one is more efficient.
This is a strange comparison: a five-door hot hatch and an enormous, boxy super-SUV. But it got our attention because both models are capable of powering all four wheels. There are some significant differences between the powertrains. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine in the A45 produces 421 horsepower (313 Kilowatts) as well as 368 pound-feet (506 Newton-meters). Twin-turbo 4.0 liter V8 makes 565 horsepower (421 kW) and 626 pounds (685 Nm). You will also notice the massive weight and aerodynamic differences.
In the first race, the G63 takes a significant lead but the A45 starts to catch up as they near the finish line. Although it is not enough to pass G-Wagen, it shows that the larger G63 cannot win over the smaller A45. The A45 gets a better start in the second race, but the G63 still has a slight advantage. The A45 closes the gap quickly and takes the lead. They crossed the finish line in 12.1 seconds. The quarter-mile was completed by the G63 in 12.3 seconds.
The AMG hot hatch wins two rolling races before winning the brake test. Although the A45 is smaller and lighter than its counterparts, it has less horsepower and torque. The price difference between them is also significant. Carwow evaluated the A45 at PS56570 ($74715 at current exchange rate), while the G63 was priced at PS146,490 ($192.829).
