It doesn’t matter if it looks stupid, but it works.
The efficiency of plug-in hybrid powertrains has been a hallmark of the industry. But, the latest wave performance cars show that the technology can bring excitement. The Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E-Performance PHEV is a great example. It produces a staggering 831 horsepower (620 kW) as well as 1,033 lb-ft (1.400 Nm), making it the most powerful Mercedes-AMG GT 63 GT 63_ PHEV, until the F1-engined One hypercar arrives, in 2022.
The plug-in hybrid version of that one will also be available. This was confirmed by our spy team at the Nurburgring. The extra fuel cap, located on the right-rear bumper, is not to be missed. It’s also on the electrified GT-4Door Coupe.
The Panamericana grille was only available for the coupe and cabriolet versions of the S63, but Mercedes will add vertical slats to the sedan. The disguise is not entirely clear. However, the front bumper of the high-performance luxobarge features a more aggressive design and larger air intakes. While the rear bumper has been modified in order to accommodate the quad exhaust flanked by a diffuser with three fins, it can be clearly seen.
Mercedes took the time to mask parts of the interior, even though the majority of it was carried over from the Benz S-Class. The concealment of the door cards’ design is somewhat rudimentary. Mercedes chose to use cardboard for the rear portion of the central armrest.
A V8 gasoline engine will be used in conjunction with an electric motor to produce a combined power output of around 700 hp. Rumours suggest that a new, hotter model will be available to replace the S65. It will use a V8 gasoline engine and an electric motor to produce a combined output of approximately 700 hp. Mercedes still offers a V12 S-Class but it is only available on the Maybach model and the armored Benz-branded Guard. Not on the AMG.
These prototypes are almost completely camouflaged, so an official unveiling could be just around the corner. Mercedes will unveil the all-new SL within a few days. It might wait a while before turning our attention to its spicy S-Class.
