Manhart SL 800 R comes with engine and suspension enhancements. Not to mention a little bit of gold.
The Mercedes AMG SL has many reasons to be loved. The SL63’s twin-turbocharged 4.0 liter V8 engine provides 577 reasons to love horsepower. The AMG-honed SL-Class can also be enjoyed as a pleasure-to-drive vehicle, whether it’s a relaxed highway cruise or a thrilling ride through the canyons. This handsome roadster is indeed faultless, according to our Mercedes SL first-drivereview.
Manhart Performance didn’t find fault with the car. Let’s face it, Manhart Performance is going to Manhart. This usually means adding a coat black paint with contrast gold stripes and some more ponies under its hood. This is exactly what you get with the Manhart SL 800 R. You can probably guess why.
You’ll still find a twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine between the SL’s fenders. Manhart has added new turbochargers, as well as a new intercooler. Although we suspect that there may be other modifications, such as a new engine tune, the aftermarket company won’t give any further details. 800 horsepower and more than 738 pound-feet (1,001 Newton-meters) torque were the results. All of this was achieved through the Manhart-specific rear tires.
Although the tuner does not provide performance specifications, considering that a Mercedes-AMG SL63 can reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 196 mph, the SL 800 R should be substantially faster – provided you have traction. The car can be modified with suspension modifications, but the details are not available. Manhart says the 800 R comes with “additional choices” to improve the performance envelope. It’s a custom-made rocketship with smooth SL styling.
Pricing is not mentioned, since the Manhart SL 800 R was announced on February 8. The German company will accept build requests from those who want a little more shock and awe than the AMG-designed products.
