Mercedes-Benz EQE debuts with EQS styling, 288 HP and Hyperscreen

The larger EQS have been followed by the new EQE.

The EQS was the first mass-market EV in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup. It was also the EQC. Based on our time behind the brand’s new electric sedan, there is much to look forward too. Mercedes-Benz will be launching a whole new range of electrified products at this week’s IAA Show, Munich. This includes the new EQE 350.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class 350 is located below the EQS, which mirrors the relationship between the gas-powered and models . Although it looks very similar to the larger EQS model, the EQE measures 196.6 inches (4.934 millimeters) compared with the EQS’ 207.0 inch (5,265mm) overall length. The EQE’s wheelbase is smaller than that of the EQS, at 122.9 mm (3,122 mm), compared to 126.5 mm (3,210 mm).

If you look hard enough, you may be able to see visual differences that distinguish the EQE from its bigger sibling. The AMG-Line model’s front grille is larger and reaches further into the bumper. It also has illuminated tri-star accents. You have a variety of wheel designs, including 19-inch and 20-inch options, to choose from.

The EQE, like the larger EQS’s, is designed to maximize aerodynamic efficiency. The EQE has a drag coefficient 0.20 making it, along with the EQS, the most aerodynamic car on the planet.

The EQE 350’s power comes from a 90.6-kilowatt hour battery pack and a 215.0 kilowatt electric engine mounted on the rear axle. This produces 288 horsepower (215 kilowatts), and 391 pound feet (530 newton meters). Standard is rear-wheel drive, but 4Matic all wheel drive is an option that adds an electric motor to its front axle. It all is managed by a single-speed transmission.

Mercedes-Benz claims a range of 410mi (660 km) using the generous European WLTP cycle. However, don’t expect the same numbers to be applicable to the US EPA scale. Using DC fast charging, the EQE can still charge between 10 and 80 percent in as little as 31 minutes.

The EQE features a standard four-link front suspension with multi-link rear – much like the new S-Class – and optional rear-wheel steering. This allows for a maximum steering angle up to 10 degrees. The brand’s Airmatic air suspension comes with an adaptive damping system. The adaptive dampers are available in Sport mode to reduce the ride height by 1.0 inches at speeds exceeding 75 MPH. This helps reduce drag and improve stability. Users can manually raise the suspension 1 inch at speeds below 25 MPH to clear parking berms and small obstacles.

Driving dynamics is likely to be the EQE’s second most exciting feature. The base EQE comes with a 12.8-inch touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital cluster. However, the new Mercedes-Benz hyperscreen is also available.

The EQE features a single continuous piece of 56.0-inch curved curved glass that runs from the instrument cluster to passenger-side dash. It has three screens: a 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, a massive 17.7-inch central touchscreen display and a 12.3 inches passenger-side display. A fingerprint reader is available for biometric authentication as well as augmented-reality navigation.

The screens run on the most recent version of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Software. They have new colored icons in blue-orange and a simplified layout to make it easier to use when on the go. The EQE offers three distinct display styles: Sporty, Understated, Classic, and three modes specific to navigation, assistance, or service.

The brand’s Comfort seating is standard on the base EQE, while the AMG-Line provides sport buckets for no additional cost. MB-Tex faux leather covers the dash, armrests and seats. It is free of any ethical or environmental concerns. Energizing Comfort, Mercedes-Benz’s pre-programmed massage system and relaxation system, is also available in the EQE. It includes new options such as Forest Glade and Sounds of the Sea.

The EQE includes active safety systems such as automatic emergency braking, high beam assist, and Presafe collision awareness. The Driver Assistance package can be added to the EQE. It includes active lane-change and blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign assist, and Pre-Safe side impact collision mitigation.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQE350 2023 Mercedes-Benz sounds like a good follow-up to its predecessor, the EQS. For markets such as the US and Europe, production will begin in mid-2022. Details and pricing for the North American model will be available closer to the date of its on-sale date.
