Mercedes EQS Interior Shows Without The Hyperscreen: What’s the Difference?

The standard EQS borrows the smaller-but-still-large screen from the latest S-Class.

We rarely see photos of the highest trim level, with all its bells and whistles, when a new car is unveiled. This makes sense as is the most expensive trim level. However, on rare occasions, automakers will also share images of the standard model. Here’s an example: the 2022 Mercedes EQS with a less-screen-heavy interior.

This is the regular version of Daimler’s first dedicated electric car. It does not include the Hyperscreen setup. The central display is the same 12.8 inch diagonal as the S Class, from which the EQS also inherits the shortcut buttons below. The main screen, which is similar to the traditional flagship with the three-pointed star, uses OLED tech for vibrant graphics and crisp colors.

Both versions have the 12.3-inch LCD digital driver display. The OLED screen on passenger side of dashboard is gone. The OLED touch screen on the driver’s side is gone. With the 17.7-inch OLED touch screen removed, the extra screen and the curved glass cover are also gone. This creates a dashboard design very similar to the one found in the S-Class.

This look is actually better than the S-Class’s. We prefer the S-Class’s circular side air vents, which we find more elegant, and the central ones at the top of the infotainment to be more integrated. We would prefer this interior layout to the optional Hyperscreen EQS, but that’s just our personal preference. We think it’s great that Mercedes offers options, as we know some people will choose the model without 56 inches.

Mercedes will show three interior options for the base model. The sportier version features a flat-bottomed steering column, black leather and many illuminated stars on its passenger-side dashboard. The two other models have a more traditional look, with wood trim and cream-colored upholsteries.

On April 15, the EQS will officially be revealed. We already know that it will be followed by a smaller EQE sedan in September. Both SUV versions of the EQS will be available in 2022. Logic tells us that the EQS SUV will feature a nearly identical interior. It is not yet clear if the Hyperscreen will be available on the smaller models or if the center display will be limited to the 12.8-inch model.
