Mercedes, get on it! It’s time to reveal it, Mercedes.
We are happy to see that there are still some manufacturers who can make off-road capable vehicles in the new age of electrified crossovers. Land Rover, Jeep and Toyota are just a few of them – even luxury brands like Mercedes-Benz still make the G-Class. It’s a lot more refined than its predecessor, but is still not available in the rugged 4×4 Squared version.
It seems that this will soon change. Our spy team captured a camouflaged prototype for the lifted G-Class, which was being tested in winter conditions. They also refueled at a gas station. Although the disguise suggests that there are final adjustments and evaluations, it looks almost ready to be produced.
The new prototype has an amazing blue finish and the front fascia is a completely different color. It could be that it was taken from another prototype to test purposes, but we can see no design changes to previous trial vehicles.
These photos give you a better look at the suspension on the G-Class 4×4 squared. Zoom in and you will see the massive brakes and lower aluminum wishbones on the G-Class 4×4 Squared. The red brake calipers may not be a good match for the exterior color, but there will likely be many customization options available when the model enters production.
Although everything looks good for the launch of the G-Class, there is no official date. Given how naked the prototype is, we believe the grand premiere could be held in the coming months. The debut will be entirely digital, as there is no Geneva Motor Show next month.
