Mercedes G-Class 4×4 Quadruped Spied with Army Look

Camouflage is over, and everything is ready for production.

Long-awaited Mercedes-Benz 4×4 Squared is here. The first signs that the German company was working on a hardcore version the G were almost a year ago. Today, we have new spy photos. These photos were taken by our photographers at the Nürnbergring where Mercedes operates a test centre.

Although this prototype doesn’t wear camouflage, it isn’t difficult to see what the rest of its surroundings are hiding. Mercedes decided to replace the camouflage with black taping for this prototype. This is a change from the previous test cars that had wheel arches disguised. Although it doesn’t look professional, it does the job.
The G-Class comes in a matte green finish and has a roof rack. It also features a spare wheel and a full-size spare tire at the rear. Although it is not concealing anything, the spare wheel rack is covered in black tape. It’s worth noting that the prototype has more aerodynamic side reflectors than the one , which was spotted on the Nurburgring track in March of this year.

Mercedes is likely fine-tuning the details of the G-Class 4×4 Squared recipe. What lies under the hood is the biggest mystery about this off-roader. It will debut with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter engine. However, it is not clear if it will come in a standard G550 (G500) tune or whether AMG will massage it.

The base V8 unit produces 416 horsepower (310 Kilowatts) as well as 450 pound feet (610 Newton-meters), which may not be sufficient for certain terrains. We expect to see the AMG-tuned, 4.0 V8 with 577 horsepower (430 kW), and 627 lbft (850 Nm), but this is only an assumption.

We are hopeful that we will soon be able to see the G-Class 4×4. It is possible that it will arrive in the second half of the year. The IAA in Munich next month could be a venue for its big debut.
