Mercedes-Maybach S-Class V12 Specifics Confirmed. AWD-Only.

This twin-turbo, 6.0-liter engine packs a punch.

We were lucky enough to stumble upon images of the Mercedes-Maybach S680, and now we have the juicy technical specifications for the V12 S-Class. The Russian configurator has the crown jewel of Daimler’s range. It lists the extended luxury sedan with a twin-turbo, 6.0-liter engine and an automatic nine-speed transmission.

The engine produces 604 horsepower (450kilowatts), and the Maybach S680 can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h), from a stop in four and a quarter seconds. Electronically, the maximum speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h), so not many wealthy people will need to drive at this speed.

The V12 S-Class has switched to an all-wheel-drive system. Instead of sending power to the rear wheels like the S65 and S650, it will instead use that power for the front wheels. It seems that the Chinese-market badge “S680”, which was introduced with the 2017 facelifted Maybach in Russia, is now going global. It is not clear if “S650” will be used in certain markets.

The Russian configurator shows the car’s weight using the largest engine offered by Mercedes. The Maybach S-Class, which is the range-topping Maybach S-Class, weighs in at 2,350 kg (5.180 pounds), making the acceleration even more impressive. The output of 604 hp is 17 hp lower than the S650, which was sold in the United States. Although torque is not mentioned, we are told it is the same 738 pound feet (1,098 Newton-meters) as before.

Mercedes-AMG will be offering two performance versions to its S-Class V12 model. Both will be plug-in hybrids. The S63e will have around 700 horsepower and the S73e will have approximately 800 horsepower.

The S680 will remain one of the most expensive cars in the world, other than supercars and hypercars. The Russian configurator lists V12 S-Class for $374,000 (EUR310,000).
