Perhaps another four years?
The rumour mill quickly picked up on the story about a Mercedes-AM C53. This was to fill the gap between C43/C63 just like E43/E63. To everyone’s dismay, Mercedes quickly refuted those rumors and suggested that the 53-liter engine will not be added to the C-Class in its lifetime.
Go Auto Jerry Stamoulis, Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific product communications manager, stated that they are not looking to expand the AMG range on the C-Class. Not at all in the sixth generation’s lifetime.
Technically, anything is possible. However, there are no plans to add a 53-horsepowertrain to the C-Class at this time. Stamoulis stated that the 43 package is sufficient for this vehicle. It’s lighter than an EClass and does all that you need a C43 to, so it’s probably right for that car now.”
C53 is a new addition to the AMG range. It is the only AMG powerplant that has electrification. This is before the Mercedes AMG Project One comes in. It could have produced between 385 horsepower and 469 horsepower (C43), or C63. The 53 engine in E53/CLS 53 would have been an inline-six 3.0-liter motor and an electric motor. They combined for 429 horsepower.
These will all remain propositions for the time being. This statement by Stamoulis suggests that it won’t be long before it happens. The C43 is alive and well for the remainder of its life.
