Mercedes UK launches the hotter C63 AMG, dubbed C Class DR 520

The UK’s only exclusive version of the C 63 AMG has the complete scoop. Read the full story.

The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class DR 520 is being launched by Daimler on the UK market. The special edition model is based on the C 63 AMG and has 60 hp more power than the standard AMG. It also boasts a maximum of 650 Nm (479 ft.lb) according to the press release.

There are however some discrepancies. We would normally convert power output numbers into PS and bhp for you. However, Mercedes included the 520 number in its title so we had to point out that they don’t add up.

Unless we are wrong in our math, adding 60 HP or 60 PS to C63 AMG’s standard figures doesn’t give you 520. The standard C63 AMG was last checked at 457 PS/ 451 BHP / 336 Kw. Many UK subsidiaries convert metric horsepower (PS) into brake horsepower (bhp), according to their German, French and Italian parent companies. This practice has one problem: PS is not the same as bhp (1 to 1). It still adds up to 517 PS, even though Mercedes UK uses 60 PS and 60 bhp.

The car comes in two versions. The saloon can sprint to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds while the estate takes 0.1 seconds. Both cars have an electronically-limited top speed of 301 km/h (187 mph). The AMG Performance Pack Plus is included in the car, which features forged pistons and redesigned connecting rods. It also includes an upgraded crankshaft. Step brakes with red disc calipers are also available. A carbon fiber spoiler is also available for the Saloon.

Yet another problem we found. The AMG performance pack Plus adds 30 PS to the C-Class DR 520, and not 60 HP as stated in a press release. The C-Class DR 520 will receive an enhanced package, which should be called AMG Performance Pack Plus or Plus.

Interior features include Alcantara and leather sport seats with contrasted stitching. The same materials are used on the door panels and dash. AMG Performance steering wheel has also been added.

This limited edition car will only be available in 20 units. All of them will be sold through Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands, Surrey, England. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class DR517 comes in matte black or matte, with titanium-accented alloy wheels, grille and badges.

The C 63 AMG is more expensive than the DR 517, but it’s worth the extra PS9,995. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class DR517 Saloon is priced at PS62,430 while the Estate costs PS63,680 including taxes and fees.
