This is a great idea.
The car chase scene from 2001’s The Fast And Furious would not be as famous if it weren’t for the Honda Civic that fell under the semi. This scene has been remade many times by DIY enthusiasts and movie stars. Evgeny Chebotarev from Russia made the latest version. He filmed himself driving a Mazda Miata motorbike underneath a semi-truck trailer.
Chebotarev uploaded several videos to Instagram of his daredevil stunts. Although it seems dangerous to do the stunt in an open-roofed coupe, Chebotarev can be seen looking back at the semi-trailer’s rear wheels early in the video. Chebotarev was able to see the truck and car from a much more convenient position because there wasn’t a roof. Smart.
The videos show him slowly sliding his Miata under the trailer and then emerging from the other side. However, the Miata’s front bumper appears to be close to the trailer. Although the Miata doesn’t get close to the trailers rear wheels, it does get uncomfortablely close to hitting them as Chebotarev navigates under it. A single misstep could have resulted in a catastrophe. In the unlikely event of an accident, it doesn’t appear that there was a metal bar to stop the car from hitting the rear tires.
This is not something you should do at home. The video looks like it was shot on a deserted highway with the truck working closely with the Chebotarev in order to make this stunt a success. It’s likely that we’ll see the same stunt repeated time and again. It’s always thrilling to watch it happen. This is a scene that car enthusiasts will think of almost every time they pass a semi-truck.
