It is powered by a Ford-sourced, naturally-aspirated three-cylinder engine.
Morgan teases the next generation of the trike-like model just weeks after built the last example of the 3 Wheeler. It will be on the roads next year.
These teaser images of the next-gen 3 Wheeler are under heavy camouflage. But they reveal a lot. The most significant change is the fact that the V-twin engine is not visible at the front. The powerplant is not visible at all. Morgan describes the vehicle in these photos as an “engineering prototype under durability testing”.
This car’s three-finned nose appears to be temporary placeholder. It has exposed brackets that don’t match the appearance of a production vehicle. It doesn’t match the machine’s sleek exterior styling. Morgan claims that the 3 Wheeler’s new design language is inspired by early jet age aircraft.
These images show that the new 3 Wheeler still shows the steering and suspension components at the front. The wheels are covered with fenders in the style of a bicycle.
Although these shots don’t allow us to see inside, it is clear that there’s only a two-person cockpit. The roll hoop is above the head of the driver. A tiny, Brooklands-style windshield diverts some of the airflow above the driver.
The new 3 Wheeler uses a Ford-sourced, naturally aspirated three cylinder engine instead of the V-twin. Morgan doesn’t talk about the gearbox.
Morgan was close to building an electric 3 Wheeler. The product was to be available for sale in 2018. However, the company cancelled the project before the actual launch.
However, the specs of the EV were not very impressive. The rear wheel would be powered by a liquid-cooled electric motor with 47 horsepower (34.8 kilowatts). An estimated range of 120 miles (193 km) would have been possible with a 21-kilowatt hour battery pack.
