Both cars were not helped by the track conditions.
Although now isn’t the best time to purchase a car, cross-shopping the Ford Mustang GT with the Genesis G70 is unlikely. These cars are completely opposites, but how does that translate on the track? Motor YouTube channel has a new video that attempts to answer this question, pitting both cars against one another in drag races.
The Genesis has more doors than the Mustang but both models only send power to the rear wheels. The Mustang’s naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 produces 455 horsepower (339 Kilowatts) as well as 556 pound-feet (405 Newton-meters). This is more than the G70’s 367 horsepower (273 kW) or 376 lbft (510 Nm), respectively, which comes from its turbocharged 3.3-liter V6. The Mustang has Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, which are better than the G70’s Michelin Pilot Sport 4s.
Because the Mustang lost a shift, the first race had to be re-run. Launch Control was engaged in the second race. The Mustang won by one car length and completed the quarter-mile in 13.1 seconds. The Genesis completed it in 13.3. The Genesis narrowed the gap in the street race. Both cars were set to the most comfortable settings, and the gearboxes were left in auto mode. The Genesis won the race in 13.2 seconds and beat the Mustang’s 13.6 second time.
The last race started with a rolling start. While the two teams were neck-to-neck for much of the race, the Ford won another race. The Mustang’s powerful V8 and V6 were no match for the G70’s V6. The race did show how close they are. The performance gap is not large between them, even though Genesis has two less cylinders and almost 90 horsepower.
