Volkswagen bus for 21st Century
Volkswagen has unveiled the Budd-e concept during the Consumer Electronics Show and the Head of Electrical and Electronic Development at the company has confirmed that the model will be put into production.
Interview with Car Magazine Dr Volkmar Tanneberger stated that “You will see an automobile that looks very similar to this, on the MEB platform.” According to the development boss, the production model would arrive around 2020.
We reported earlier this month that the Budd-e was the first model to use Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Platform (MEB). This platform is specifically designed for plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. It can hold large batteries packs and other components.
Volkswagen did not release any details, but said that the Budd-e’s massive 101 kilowatt-watt-hour battery and an electric motor at each end are both included. The modern microbus can travel up to 373 miles and reach a top speed exceeding 93 mph.
The magazine reports that Audi could use the platform to support the new A2. According to reports, the model is one of many electric vehicles under consideration.
