It could have 540 horsepower.
BMW has been busy preparing a more powerful M4 model. A new spy video shows the coupe testing out at the Nurburgring track. This video is from Automotive Mike’s YouTube channel. It shows the M4 CSL pushing hard on the famous track, with its exhaust note blaring out behind it. Although the car is still camouflaged, we can get a good idea of what it will look like once it arrives.
The car’s exhaust note is one thing that the video captures well. According to reports, the automaker will use the brand’s twin turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine. This engine powers the and the M4. Rumours suggest that the engine will produce 540 horsepower (403 Kilowatts) instead of the 503-hp (375 kW) available on the Competition models. The rest of the powertrain remains a mystery. However, speculation suggests that it will be rear-wheel drive only and only an automatic transmission.
BMW could remove the rear seats if they experience an increase in power and a decrease in weight. It is difficult to see the rear seats because of the camouflaged rear side windows. Another way to save weight is to drop all-wheel drive. This only confirms the rumor about the M4 CSL being RWD only. The design of the car will be very similar to that on the M4, but with a few modifications to distinguish the CSL (including new grille treatments).
Other styling changes could be hidden under the camouflage. However, we will need to wait until BMW officially unveils it to see the actual model. This will most likely occur in Q1 2022. The M4 CSL should go into production in July 2022. This is because BMW frequently debuts new models months before they actually roll off the assembly lines. We will keep an eye on the official reveal and for more spy shots.
