New Citroen C5 Receives Unconventional Shape

It’s good news! The D-segment in Europe is still alive.

Citroen announced that the successor to the C5 would have an unusual shape, and will “reinvent the traditional sedan” three years ago. The automaker did not share much information, but stated that the production model would be inspired by the Cxperience Concept. We can finally share spy photos of the next-generation C5, which shows what Citroen was thinking.

The new Citroen C5 Aircross is not to be confused. A prototype was tested on German roads by Citroen C5 during the development phase. It seems the French vehicle has a production body and lights. There are no body panels that look like they’re fake.

New Citroen C5 Receives Unconventional Shape

Citroen has kept its word so far. The new C5 will be a unique design. It’s neither a station wagon nor a hatchback. It is definitely not a sedan. The new C5’s mix of different body styles gives it a prominent profile. Initial impressions show that it is large and comfortable.

It is worth noting that the concept and the production model seem to have a strong visual connection ( see above). This is especially true at the rear, where the taillights have a similar shape. It will be interesting to see if the D-pillar is shaped like the Cxperience Concept’s large windows ( see images below). It looks very promising, overall.

The new C5 will be riding on PSA Group’s EMP2 platform. This will allow the French marque the ability to use electrified engines. According to the rumors, the engine range will not include a diesel engine. However, two plug-in powertrains will be available from the beginning. More information will be available soon.
