China was the debut of The Rogue’s global brother.
The American Nissan Rogue was officially launched in June of last year. We have already tested the crossover and found it to be one the best models in the segment. Europe’s Rogue, also known as the X-Trail is still using the old model. However, this will change next summer.
The new X-Trail will make its debut in China at the Auto Shanghai 2021. It will then arrive in China in the summer 2022, two years after its original launch. Although the reasons behind the delay are unknown, Nissan claims that the SUV will provide “a flexible and versatile interior for customers with a sense for adventure combined with the most recent Nissan on-board technologies.”
Although the Japanese manufacturer has not yet revealed any technical details about the 2022 XTrail, it states that it will come with its E-Power hybrid powertrain. The new Qashqai was launched with the same system. It consists of a 1.5-liter motor and an electric engine for a total output 187 horsepower (140 Kilowatts) 243 pound-feet (335 Newton-meters). It is interesting to see that the combustion engine only generates electricity, while the wheels are driven by an electric motor.
It will be interesting to see if Nissan will offer the new X-Trail equipped with a diesel engine. We are certain that the days of the 1.6, 1.7 and 2.0 dCi engines found in the X-Trail will be gone, judging by the absence of a compression-ignition option in the Qashqai.
The Chinese model will be available in the second half this year. Nissan claims it will feature “cutting-edge design and dedication to detail” and advanced technologies that demonstrate intelligent driving and enhanced connectivity. However, the E-Power powertrain was introduced by Nissan in China at the Auto Shanghai 2021.
