Sergio Pininfarina’s 458 Speciale Aperta tribute.
There are a few Ferraris out there, but then there’s the Sergio. The 458 Speciale Aperta, upon which it is based, was already an automotive masterpiece. Pininfarina, an Italian design house, created a special version in honor of Sergio Pininfarina’s death in 2012. Pininfarina’s Chairman was Battista Farina, whose son saw some of the most stunning cars in the world.
Recently, I took the wheel of a Road-legal McLaren P1 GTR , Mr JWW More YouTube I had the chance to test drive one of six 458 Speciale As that were converted to Sergio specifications. The U.S. sold half of them, the other half was shipped to Japan and the European Union bought the two remaining. This example is one of the Euro-spec models with less than 200 km (124 miles). It’s therefore in excellent condition. This car is literally a roofless vehicle, as it was not designed to accept a retractable or folding top.
Pininfarina’s completely custom bodywork features a few retro cues. This is because the Dino was Sergio’s favorite Ferrari. Paolo Pininfarina, Sergio’s current chairman, stated that the design team used some styling cues from the 1970s and 1980s.
The car’s front design is very similar to Pininfarina’s all-electric Battista hypercar, which was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Although the production version of the car isn’t as impressive as the concept car (see photos below), it is still one the most fascinating modern Ferraris.
Gooding & Company also had a light-silver example available for sale at its August Pebble Beach event. It was sold for an undisclosed amount. The 2014 Ferrari Sergio was valued at anywhere from $2.5 million to $3,000,000.
