You might think that this article and headline are clickbait headlines based on the image. The video at the top is a radio-controlled scale model, which you can see is a Volvo military vehicle. It’s amazing at crawling through tiny rocks in what appears to be an ideal playground for scale models.

Here’s some background information to help you figure out what the model is of this Volvo. This is the Cross Country C303 that the Swedish brand manufactured. It was a family military vehicle developed in the 1960s. Production began in 1974 with two versions, a 4×4 and 6×6. The one seen in the video is clearly the four-wheel version.

Some C303 models were sold to civilians and used for special service vehicles. A Volvo truck won the 1983 Paris-Dakar rally for the class of trucks less than 10 tonnes. There were 8,718 vehicles in total. About 75 percent were delivered to different military service. The remainder were sold to private buyers.

The 3.0-liter V6 engine from Volvo’s passenger cars powered the military Volvo truck. This engine produced 125 horsepower (93 Kilowatts) in its standard form. However, the truck used a slightly modified version with 117 HP (87 kW). The maximum torque fell from 165 pound feet (224 Newton-meters), to 152 pounds (206 Nm), in the military version.

The C303 family has a huge ground clearance that is very similar to the legendary Mercedes-Benz Unimog. Portal axles with locking differentials gave the vehicle outstanding off-road performance. You can also see the exact scale model of the truck to achieve the same off-road performance.
