The S9, former Volkswagen Group design chief Walter de Silva’s ultimate sports car, was first shown at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. This is Walter de Silva, the man who designed the original Audi R8. He is now working with Silk-FAW, which assisted Hongqi in the development of S9.
The hypercar’s sleek silhouette is very European and you can see it in the gallery. The exterior features include a variety of interesting details, such as the integrated air intakes in the headlights that provide fresh air to the hybrid engine. The exterior features a striking red finish with exposed carbon fiber as some visible components. Smart electrochromic windows are also available on the S9, which can adjust their tint intensity to increase energy consumption.
The sleek exterior conceals a plug in hybrid system that uses a V8 engine to produce 1,400 horsepower (1.044 kilowatts). Although information is limited, the S9 can reportedly reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in 1.9 seconds from a stop. 250 mph (402 km/h) is the top speed, while pure electric range is approximately 25 miles (40 km).
Walter de Silva says that the Hongqi S9 is a vehicle that brings to life the hopes and dreams of all who drive it. My team and I created this futuristic hypercar to appeal to people who are looking for exclusivity. It combines functionality with aesthetics that look forward.
The best thing? The best part? The company plans to make 99 units, with production set to begin next year. According to reports, the S9 will be made in Modena (Italy).
