Modern underneath, vintage on the outside.
In the post-World War II era, the Westcraft Manufacturing Company was able to make some of the most beautiful camper vans for nine years. The Capistrano, a park trailer with dual axles, was the most successful model of the company’s early 1950s production. It was also its longest-available model. It’s a rare example that is available, and it’s very expensive.
This particular Capistrano park trailer was purchased by the current owner in 2008 from a friend. It has been through an 11-year (!!!) restoration. The restoration and customization took place at a California studio. The interior and exterior were reconstructed to factory standards. This included the repair or replacement of interior birch, repainting the entire body, and updates to wiring and plumbing.
It’s a fully-equipped home on wheels that you can use for vacation. It features a king-sized bed, an oven and refrigerator with modern designs, as well as two hidden TVs and DuoTherm heating/air conditioning.
The original bathroom was expanded and now has a shower and curtain rod. A retro-looking, mint green American Standard toilet is also available. It was built in the late 1940s and has been refurbished with modern flushing systems while keeping its original appearance. Although most of the equipment is from the past, it uses modern technology and mechanisms underneath.
All documents are included, along with a large gallery of drawings and images that detail the restoration process. You have 48 hours to place a bid for the trailer. It is registered with California until November 2021. The highest bid so far is $210,000
